Abstract

Augmented reality (AR) has improved teaching and learning quality. This study focuses on the application of AR in teaching chemical bonding content to enhance students' cognitive competence in chemistry through visual and interactive learning experiences. The study includes a lesson design based on the flipped classroom model, using the QuimiAR application to assist students in observing molecular structures and chemical bonds. Experimental results with 89 seventh-grade students at Duyen Thai Secondary School in Hanoi revealed that the group using AR showed significant improvements in test scores and manifestations of chemical cognitive competence, as well as their ability to apply knowledge to solve learning problems. The study affirms the potential of AR in innovating teaching methods, especially in teaching abstract chemical concepts, contributing to achieving the goal of competency-based education in chemistry teaching.
