INTEGRATING HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION INTO PRIMARY VIETNAMESE LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

Integrating human rights education is a strategic task in subject-based teaching and educational activities at the primary school level in the context of curriculum reform. The Vietnamese Language subject provides an ideal context for embedding lessons on children’s fundamental rights, including the rights to life, care, recognition, and protection from physical and emotional harm. This study employs qualitative research methods, including the analysis and synthesis of theoretical perspectives on integrated teaching and human rights education, alongside content analysis of reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities in the Vietnamese Language textbook series Connecting Knowledge with Life. Based on theoretical inquiry and curriculum content analysis, the paper clarifies key principles and approaches for integrating human rights education in alignment with communication skills development and language practice activities. An illustrative instructional design for reading comprehension is presented to demonstrate the proposed integration.
