THE CURRENT STATUS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHING AT VIETNAM NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, HANOI: A COMPETENCY-BASED APPROACH

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the current situation of teaching activities in the Physical Education course at Vietnam National University, Hanoi from a competency-based perspective. The study employed questionnaire surveys, interviews, observations, and document analysis; the data were processed using descriptive statistics. The results show that the teaching activities of the Physical Education courses have initially reflected a competency-based approach in terms of objectives, content, and implementation. However, the implementation process still reveals several limitations, such as the uneven innovation of teaching methods, the lack of diversity in forms of learning organization, the limited alignment between course content and students’ needs and capacity for self-directed practice, and assessment practices that have not fully reflected the process of learners’ competency development. The findings provide a practical basis for the development of solutions to improve the effectiveness of teaching the Physical Education course in higher education institutions.
