Abstract

Vietnam has been undertaking an educational reform with the adoption of the 2018 National Curriculum. The implementation of this new curriculum demands preparation and significant efforts from teachers to adapt. This study investigates factors affecting the implementation of the 2018 curriculum among geography teachers. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with 12 geography teachers in various provinces across Northern Vietnam. The findings reveal that teachers faced more challenges than facilitators. Key influencing factors include the curriculum itself, school conditions, societal awareness, subject content, and assessment methods. Based on these findings, the study offers recommendations to help teachers overcome difficulties in implementing the 2018 curriculum and provides insights for teacher professional development.
