Abstract

Traditional village economies with tight and cohesive social networks in which the quantity and quality of information on people's characteristics are relatively high can be a favorable environment to convey information about the issue of Vietnamese immigrant workers internationally. This research examines social networks, especially kinship ties, and studies the effects of such networks on the overseas migration of Vietnamese youth in their migration decision-making process to Northeast Asia. Based on the results of surveys and in-depth interviews, the study shows that Vietnamese youth migrants utilize social networks to facilitate their migration efforts in Do Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province. Migration networks not only relay information from places of departure and arrival but also provide practical support and assurance for the migration process of new people. This contributes to the creation of a “chain migration” system. The article aims to provide insights into how Vietnamese workers choose to migrate and emphasizes the impact of their migration choices.
