SOCIAL WORK ACTIVITIES IN SUPPORTING SOCIAL INTEGRATION FOR ORPHAN CHILDREN IN SOCIAL ASSISTANCE FACILITIES

Social integration is an issue of concern for disadvantaged groups, including orphans at social assistance facilities. Social work with the functions of prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation plays an important role in supporting social integration for orphans at social assistance facilities. The research was conducted at SOS Children's Villages and Birla Hanoi, the survey sample included 174 orphan children and 16 officials and employees conducted from 2018-2021. The results show that social work activities in supporting social integration for orphans including educational support and career guidance; health care and medical support; and psychological and social support are provided regularly, in many forms, and meet the needs of children. However, there are still some limitations such as not paying attention to the differences of each group of children, and not promoting children's potential and capacity in social integration. Therefore, there is a need for solutions to improve the effectiveness of social work activities such as professionalizing and specifying support activities, strengthening connections, and mobilizing resources in supporting orphans.
