A DIVERSIFICATION OF NARRATORS IN NGUYEN BINH PHUONG’S NOVEL A MEDIOCRE EXAMPLE FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF RHETORICAL NARRATOLOGY

Rhetorical narratology was introduced in W. Booth's research work titled The Rhetoric of Fiction (1961), opening up a new tendency for studying narratives. In the rhetorical aspects of this theory, the narrator exists as an important code in the author's coding process and, at the same time, becomes an implied author's main tool in creating his artistic world and persuading readers about a certain issue. Based on the rhetorical theory of the narrator, a crucial factor in the rhetorical narratological framework, the paper aims to examine Nguyen Binh Phuong's novel A Mediocre Example, which focuses on decoding the phenomenon of the diversification of narrators. From there, we can recognize Nguyen Binh Phuong's contribution to narratological methods in the field of narratology in Vietnam and the development of contemporary Vietnamese literature.
