In this article, we read Deep Fragrant of Mother-land's Green Rice by Nguyen Tham Thien Ke to analyse how the writer created a sense of origin and place belonging through a strategy called cultural reterritorialization. This strategy, as Donelle N. Dreese presented, involves recuperating the land by recalling past landscapes and telling stories about its cultural identity. This article will clarify this characteristic by linking the writer’s descriptions of homeland in Nguyen Tham Thien Ke’s work with Dreese’s theory about the sense of origin and place. In Deep Fragrant of Mother-land's Green Rice, this sense links to the geoculture space of Northern Vietnam. The writer restores the source of oral traditions and stories about the history of the land, especially the culinary and architectural culture. The sense of place and origin is a way for the writer to find connection between himself and the surrounding environment.
