HEALTH STATUS AND HEALTHCARE ACCESSIBILITY OF OLDER ADULTS IN THE DALAT URBAN AREA: TOWARDS AN INTEGRATED CARE MODEL

Abstract

This population aging study is contextualized within the specific urban setting of Da Lat, which is characterized by the distinct impacts of its natural environment and highland climate. The research employs a descriptive cross-sectional design involving a sample of 301 older adults (n = 301), complemented by secondary data analisis, to assess multidimensional health status and the capacity to access healthcare services. Results indicate that despite high health insurance coverage (98.3%) and a strong preference for “aging in place,” older adults face a significant burden of chronic diseases (66.8%), alongside mobility decline and psychosocial health issues. Furthermore, actual healthcare access and service use remain constrained by barriers such as a lack of information regarding home care services, complex administrative procedures, and financial burdens. Drawing upon these empirical findings, the study proposes the development of an integrated care model for older adults in Da Lat. This model emphasizes the imperative of centering home- and community-based care, advocating for a systemic transition toward chronic disease management coupled with social work to ensure comprehensive welfare for this demographic.
