Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between authenticity and commercialization of traditional brocade weaving in the context of tourism development in Mai Chau using methods such as literature review and analysis, field surveys, sociological investigation, and ethnographic fieldwork. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires with 206 respondents, including artisans, local residents, business owners, local authorities, and tourists, and were then processed using statistical analysis with Excel software. The results show that brocade weaving in Lac Village and Hang Kia is still maintained but is affected differently by tourism and commercialization. In Lac Village, tourism has expanded the market and increased income, but brocade products tend to change in materials, colors, and patterns. Meanwhile, Hang Kia retains more traditional elements but faces difficulties in market access and the risk of decline due to limited economic incentives. Based on these findings, the study proposes several solutions to preserve and promote the value of brocade within community-based tourism development.
